My work is fundamentally underpinned by my core training and qualifications as a person-centred or humanistic therapist. This approach sits comfortably with my personal way of being and philosophy. I also work integratively, where I call on other areas of my training and experience such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), or Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD) where this might be helpful.
The person-centred or humanistic modality is informed by the belief that we all have an inherent drive or instinct towards growth, emotional comfort, safety and whole wellbeing. Sometimes, life events or experiences can throw us off-track from this, and we feel emotional distress, discomfort, threat or feel unfulfilled.
During our therapy sessions together, I will offer you a confidential, non-judgmental, empathic therapeutic relationship from which to explore whatever is troubling you. I will not offer direct advice or guidance, but may reflect on what I sense, hear and observe, ask questions and challenge your assumptions when appropriate. Sometimes I will direct your attention to your feelings to bring a greater awareness and understanding of their meaning and their relationship with your thinking. My stance will be to support your uncensored self-exploration and self-determination.
By providing these therapeutic conditions, I will work with you to achieve personal discovery and self-awareness, psychological growth and desired change. I aim to empower you to navigate through life’s challenges, make informed decisions in pursuit of your goals and to alleviate your distress.
“When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on” Carl Rogers
Traditional ‘talking therapy’ is at the core of my approach, but I also offer more creative ways for you to express yourself and discover if this is appropriate and helpful.

My Mindfulness (MBCT) and meditation training has been useful in helping to train my attention, my power of ‘noticing’ what’s going on for me and my self-care. I believe that this can contribute to a sense of holistic well-being, and this may also inform my therapeutic approach with you where appropriate.
If you have further questions about my therapeutic approach or how I work in general terms, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will be pleased to say more.
